Have you noticed how mo' men have facial hair around this time of the year? Yes, Movember is here! Movember is more than just a month when men grow impressive moustaches like gentlemen do. The word Movember is a mashup of the words 'Moustache' and 'November'. Quite clever, isn't it? Movember is a classy way of getting attention to highlight the health of men and raise awareness of awareness about cancers that affect men. How did it all begin? The origins of Movember can be tracked back to 2003, in Australia, bless the Australians for such a brilliant idea, over a couple of beers. Hey, no great story ever began with 'So, I was eating a salad.' You can read about the history of Movember on...
MoTour portraits during Movember at City Hall Celebrate Movember and the City of Kingston's portrait collection with a special series of free MoTours, Thursdays in November! Now in its second year, the MoTour promises to be MoFun than ever! "The portrait subjects display such a variety of facial hair styles, we thought discussing them would be a fun, engaging way to introduce visitors to the gentlemen represented and their significance in Kingston's history," says Paul Roberston, City Hall Curator. He encourages those participating in the Movember campaign – supporting awareness of prostate and testicular cancer and men's mental health – to come find the portrait they most resemble. Guided...
Okay, It’s November but if you ask me all I think about is Movember. So, here comes my special take, also Only The Important Stuff’s take on which Movember facial hair you should rock this November. If you pull off a slamming hairstyle then any facial hair will look amazing. Now, if you don’t know what Movember is, in a...
Humanise and have taken great pleasure in sharing our #WomenInFront series, an initiative highlighting the issues surrounding gender equality for women. Our new companion series, #MenBesideUs, is aiming to spotlight the strides men are making to support women in achieving gender equality, as well as bring some male perspective regarding gender justice to the forefront. After all, gender inequality plagues both men and women, and will only truly be alleviated through solidarity among all genders. What better way to celebrate the #MenBesideUs than Movember? Born over a few beers at a bar in Australia in 2003, Movember addresses the gender-based inequality that exists among healthcare policy-...
Casually getting ready for Movember's "Shave The Date" during a Shavecation at Kimpton Solamar Hotel. Sock Prostate Cancer! (Photos by Chandler Donoho) Truth be told, a mustache is an inconvenience. Granted, they look good on some gents. Staches were de rigueur in the 1970s—especially if you drove a white van with no windows, or were connected to the adult entertainment industry. But with apologies to Al Gore, since the creation of Movember in 2004, growing a “Mo” once a year has become an inconvenient truth. The Movember Foundation encourages men to grow a mustache during November to raise awareness and research funding for men’s health issues like prostate and testicular cancer. The Mo’s...
