Are You An Asian Guy Trying To Grow A Beard?

On the topic of beard growth, the stereotype of Asian men not having the capability to grow any facial hair is most likely one of the biggest elephants in the room. Asian mustache styles.

Well, we are not going to keep it under wraps, but instead, we are going to address it head on because, without any stereotype whatsoever, I want to attempt to help my fellow Asian brothers who are having problems growing facial hair.

Is It True? Can Asian Guys Grow Facial Hair?

While it may be true that there are many Asians that can’t seem to be able to grow a full beard, the notion that all Asians can’t grow one is definitely considered as a “stereotype.”

The reason is that, in reality, there does exist individuals from all sorts of Asian backgrounds who ARE able to grow beards.

Here’s proof of fellow Asians who are not only able to grow facial hair, but are sporting it pretty well with a bunch of cool styles (here are just 12 of them):

Sure, some can grow full beards, while others sport a nice mustache or goatee without any hair on the sides, but the fact remains that Asian dudes with beards exist.

That’s what we mean by stereotype.

Just like how there are many other cultural stereotypes like how all Asians are book smart and are good at math, well, guess what?

I’m Asian – And I was never got good grades in school, and I’m definitely horrible at math.

Tons of Asians I know are also bad at math, many of whom failed miserably in school, and some of them even dropped out.

On the other hand, I also have a lot of friends from all sorts of ethnic backgrounds – American, African American, European, Australian, Mexican, Italian, Spanish, Russian (just to name a few) – who were spectacular in school and had straight A’s.

Similarly, there are Asians who are able to grow full beards, and there are countless more multi-cultural people who are NOT able to grow one.

How Can A Chinese Guy Like Me Grow Facial Hair?

The truth about natural facial hair growth is that it indeed does come down to genetics.

It doesn’t matter if you’re Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Filipino, or any other Asian ethnicity, there will always be some who will have facial hair naturally sprouting out of their faces as they grow up, and there will be some who lack the naturally ability.

Same thing if you’re Polish, Swiss, German, French, Canadian, or whatever else.

So rather than asking questions like:

Can Chinese guys grow beards?

Do Vietnamese men have facial hair?

Why can’t Japanese men grow facial hair?

… Or any other similar culturally targeted based beard growth related questions when the problem isn’t necessarily ethnic based, a more appropriate question may simple be:

What Do I Need To Do To Grow A Beard?

Where there’s a will, there is definitely a way.

The moustache

If you are currently an Asian man trying to find a way to grow a full beard, the first place to start is to take a deeper level look into your genetics and family history.

The reason for this is that if your father, grandfather, uncles, brother, or any other male relatives are able to grow at least a little stubble, then it would be less work for you to make your dream of achieving a full beard a reality, faster.

Since it is more common for most Asians to lack the facial hair genes (hence the stereotype), we may take a bit of a different approach towards growing out our first beard.

With the disadvantage of having a lower chance of our own people having the ability to grow a beard, let’s take a look at how we would approach finding a solution for this as the Asian underdog.

Beard & Facial Hair Growth Tips For Asians

The following tips could be relevant for anyone who wants to improve hair growth on their face, but for a typical Asian who may have a complete baby face with not a speck of hair in sight, you may want to consider taking these steps to help “activate” your first facial hair growth.

1. Wash Your Face To Stimulate Facial Hair Growth

In order for you to properly prepare your face for healthy hair growth, you must make sure that it’s nice and clean.

As a best practice for a regular routine, wash your face the right way that will also help stimulate hair growth in the specific areas that you want to grow a beard.

You should always wash your face a minimum of once or twice a day, including each time you take a shower.

Many people take two showers a day – one time in the morning and another time at night, so these are the perfect times for you to wash your face along with the rest of your body.

Although – even if you don’t make it a practice to shower twice a day, you should still do it in the morning before you head off for your day, and at night before you go to bed.

Let me break this down for you…

During the day, your skin is going to attract tons of dirt, oil and all sorts of bacteria that gets stuck all over your body, including your face.

Overnight, even if you are sound asleep in the comfort of your own bed, there are still polluted air all around us that also get stuck on our skin.

Which means I’m sure you’ll agree (or at least I hope you do) that we not only want to keep ourselves clean, but we also need to create the healthiest environment for our beards to grow.

With a bunch of dirty oil and even dead skin all over our face, this is evidently not the healthy environment we would like to have for our body.

On top of that, any dried up oil and dead skin that gets stuck on your face would also get stuck on your pores, which will undoubtedly block your hair follicles.

This goes without saying that the blocked follicles would prevent any hair from sprouting, thereby eliminating any of the small chance you have of growing a beard.

Now that I’ve (hopefully) scared you into washing your face 50 times a day, the good news is that you only need to aim to do it twice a day (once in the morning and once in the morning).

However, just a simple splash with cold water is never enough.

In fact, you’ll want to wash your face with warm water (not hot water), and you will also need to do a thorough enough job to create the healthy hair growth environment we were just talking about.

Water alone won’t get rid of the dirt on your face, so make sure that you aren’t getting lazy on your own health.

How to groom a mustache

Thoroughly wash your face with a cleanser and rinse off the foam to ensure a clean face.

This should be the bare minimum that you do on a daily basis.

While a facial cleanser is necessary for daily maintenance of your skin, it can only do so much when it comes to long term skin protection.

At some point – ideally a minimum of once or twice a week – you’ll need to call up the big boys of facial maintenance to handle the stubborn dead skin that doesn’t get washed off completely.

That’s where exfoliation comes in – as it works towards softening, dissolving and ultimately removing the outer layer of your skin, which mostly consists of dead skin that makes you look older, tired and even produces wrinkles.

When you exfoliate regularly, you can keep your pores unclogged while aiding in the production of new skin, both of which also stimulates healthy hair growth.

Because of our constant contact to the pollution in the air, this takes a long term toll on your skin, and often causes it to become dry and even flakey.

As a result, the dryness and flakes are very bad for your skin, even causing itchiness and irritation, all of which are constant obstacles standing in the way of hair growth.

Even if you do wash your face at night, the consistent dryness prevents any attempts for your hair to sprout during the day, which is why they almost never decide to see daylight.

When you moisturize your face with some moisturizer or facial lotion, it hydrates your skin and creates the healthy hair growing environment we need in order for the hair to even have the capability to grow.

In addition to using a moisturizer, you can also decide to plan ahead and put some beard oil and beard balm to keep your skin, pores and any early signs of facial hair fully hydrated, which prevents bad skin and potential irritation.

And yes, the hair beneath your face needs this kind of environment in order to feel welcomed enough to come out.

2. Massage Your Face For Facial Hair Growth

Firstly, you should understand that there are lots of benefits to a facial massage.

Massaging your face will give you brighter skin, a more clear complexion, and helps you reduce your overall stress.

These are all elements that contribute towards healthy hair growth, including the hair on your face.

More specifically, if your goal is to grow a beard, a proper facial massage in the right areas is proven to increase your blood circulation in the targeted areas.

When circulation is increased, this will boost the blood and oxygen needed to stimulate hair growth to flow towards the appropriate areas of your face.

In addition, keep in mind that your face is full of muscles, and just like any other muscle in our body, your facial muscles need to have adequate exercise and movement to allow it to function the way it’s supposed to.

And in our case, we are exercising our face in the form of a facial massage, which ultimately makes it “function” the way it needs to, which in our case is to grow facial hair in the areas that are supposed to have facial hair.

How to massage your face for beard growth

Before you start, make sure you’re massaging a clean face, as explained in the first tip above.

Once you have completed washing your face, you have the option to proceed massaging your facial muscles with your bare hands or with some kind of special facial massage tool ( take a look at the array of choices you have on facial massage tools on Amazon here ).

Then, either with the tool or by using your fingers:

Starting from the bottom of your face, apply some light pressure on your chin

With your fingertips or tool, press against your skin and begin doing circular motions

Continue the circular motions in an upward kind of motion (circle around about a dozen times)

After you’re done with one area, continue the same motion as you inch up your jawline one section of your face at a time

Upon completion, finish your facial massage set by applying more pressure to your face with the heels of your hands, sweeping upwards on your jawline from your chin to your ears

Continue the same circular massage above your lips in your mustache area

Repeat 3 to 5 times for maximum effectiveness

Wash your face thoroughly and apply moisturizer to keep your face hydrated

3. Maximize Full Facial Hair Growth Stimulation With Minoxidil
