How to trim moustache styles. Movember at NBC10 - NBC 10 Philadelphia

Natural, Hungarian, Dali, English, Imperial, Freestyle, Pancho Villa, Handlebar, Pencil and more—it must be Movember when we're talking moustache styles. Movember mo styles.

Movember is the movement responsible for sprouting thousands of moustaches on men’s faces in the U.S. and around the world. By growing moustaches (also called “Mo’s”), the men also raise vital awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and other cancers that could affect men. Since its inception as a charity event in 2004, over 1.1 million participants have raised over $174 M for the cause, with official Movember campaigns taking place in ten countries.

“Movember is all about bringing back the moustache, having a good bit of fun and doing it for a very serious cause,” says Donny Killian, the U.S. Country Manager for Movember. “We engage men to grow moustaches for 30 days to raise awareness and funds for cancers affecting men. The participants then become walking and talking billboards for the cause. The most amazing part of it all is that Movember started as a conversation about a style that went out of fashion in the ‘70s and ‘80s and unfortunately never cycled back. It started with 30 original Mo-bros in 2003 in Melbourne, Australia and has grown to 450,000 men across the globe last year. It's really humbling and amazing.”

Some of the startling statistics that make Movember such a worthy cause:

In 2011, more than 240,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer

1 in 2 men will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime; 1 in 3 women will be

Here at NBC10, we’re putting down our razors to raise awareness for men’s health issues. Men are notoriously nonchalant about their wellbeing, especially when it comes to screening for cancers of the prostate and testicles.

Simple mustache styles

So all November long, a group of NBC10 staffers of all roles will be growing mustaches and beards to make a statement: that your health is important.

You too can be part of the cause. We encourage you to grow a ‘stache or beard for the month, get your friends and family involved and help make a difference. You can make your own team or join Movember as an individual at

Each week, we will be updating Team NBC10’s progress on NBC10 News. We also want to feature your pictures and videos too. Post them to our NBCPhiladelphia Facebook page so that we can tell your story! Together we can make a difference with just a little scruff.

“In the same way that we get to hear incredible stories, we see incredible moustache pictures,” Killian adds. “But I think the key is to really kind of own the moustache and own the style. However it comes in, whether you think you look like Tom Selleck, Rollie Fingers or not at all, your moustache is there for a really good reason and a good cause. Support the moustache as much as it supports you.”
